WASHINGTON, U.S. - Diplomats have reportedly said that Israel will be taken to task by the United States over settlements, demolitions and property seizures on land that the Palestinians claim for a future state in an international report. Palestinian leaders will also not be left alone by the U.S. and its Middle East mediators for not being able to stop anti-Israel attacks.
According to reports, U.S. is lining up closer to the positions of the European Union, Russia and the United Nations, who have highlighted Israels part in the conflict in the Middle East. The report will focus mostly on the rise of construction of Israeli housing in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.
It will also criticiseIsrael for a growing backlog of housing block approvals. The report is likely to enrage Israel. But it will also possibly face flak from the Palestinians as though it will address many Palestinian complaints, they will say that the report does not cover enough.
The report will be released at the UN and will likely be sent to the Security Council for endorsement. The report will underline the problems in the peace agreement between the two countries and provide recommendations to restart negotiations.
According to reports, one diplomat said that the report will be balanced as it will also condemn Palestine for violence against Israelis which have so far killed 28 Israelis, 2 Americans.193 Palestinians have also been killed in clashes with the Israeli forces.
