Israel's active COVID-19 cases fall below 2,000

JERUSALEM, May 27 (Xinhua) -- The number of active coronavirus cases in Israel has dropped below 2,000 for the first time since March 24, the state's Ministry of Health said Wednesday.

According to the ministry, the number of active cases dropped to 1,942, while the number of recoveries rose to 14,570, with 113 new recoveries.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Israel increased to 16,793, with 36 new cases.

The number of death cases remained 281, while the number of patients in serious condition increased from 37 to 41.

Earlier on Wednesday, hotels, swimming pools and restaurants across Israel were reopened.

These places returned to activity under restrictions of keeping distance, taking temperatures at the entrances and taking hygiene measures.
