JERUSALEM, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 8,066 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number in the country to 565,629.
The death toll from COVID-19 in Israel reached 4,080 after 40 new fatalities were added, while the total recoveries rose to 478,897, with 6,906 newly recovered cases.
The active cases increased to 82,652, while the number of patients in serious condition decreased from 1,161 to 1,147, out of 1,906 hospitalized patients.
According to the Ministry, the number of people vaccinated against the COVID-19 in Israel has reached 2,216,000, or 23.8 percent of its population of 9.3 million, since the vaccination campaign began on Dec. 20, 2020.
Earlier in the day, the Israeli Employment Service said about 138,000 more have been added to the unemployed since the beginning of the ongoing lockdown on Dec. 27, 2020.
This brought the total number of the unemployed in Israel to more than 661,000, with a jobless rate of 16 percent.
