BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) on Friday said that the Iraqi and U.S. military agreed to reduce combat units in two military bases in Iraq by the end of September.
The agreement was reached during a meeting held on Thursday in Baghdad between an Iraqi committee headed by JOC's Deputy Commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir al-Shammari and a U.S. committee headed by Maj. Gen. John Brennan, commanding general of the U.S.-led coalition forces in Iraq, a JOC statement said. (Iraq-U.S.-Reduce Combat Unit)
TEHRAN -- Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi said that strengthening cooperation, especially in the economic field, is an important factor to improve the strategic role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the global economy, Iranian Presidency's official website reported on Friday.

JERUSALEM -- Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett marked the first anniversary of the Abraham Accords on Friday, hailing the deals as "a new chapter in the history of peace in the Middle East."
The prime minister said that the U.S.-brokered deals, through which Israel normalized its ties with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco, respectively in 2020, were "unprecedented," according to a statement issued by his office. (Israel-Abraham Accords-Anniversary)
TEHRAN -- Afghanistan's neighboring countries must help bring about "positive and peaceful interaction" between different Afghan groups, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Friday at the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) summit on Afghanistan.
"We must provide conditions for the people and groups in Afghanistan to have a positive and peaceful interaction and to be able to portray their country's future correctly," said Raisi at the summit being held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tajikistan's capital Dushanbe, according to the Iranian Presidency's official website.
