Jordan Condemns Israels Approval of New Settlements in the West Bank

Amman, Dec. 14 (SANA)Jordans Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the Israeli occupation governments approval of the establishment of 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Petra News Agency quoted the ministrys spokesperson, Fouad al-Majali, as saying that the decision constitutes a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, undermines efforts to achieve the two-state solution, and represents a clear violation of the Palestinian peoples right to self-determination, to end the occupation, and to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. He stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.

Al-Majali reaffirmed Jordans firm condemnation and absolute rejection of the continued settlement projects and plans in the West Bank, describing them as an entrenchment of occupation and settlement expansion, and a violation of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutionsparticularly UN Security Council Resolution 2334. He also cited the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which affirmed the illegality of Israels occupation of Palestinian territory and the invalidity of settlement construction and annexation measures in the West Bank.

The spokesperson called on the international community to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities, compel Israel to halt its dangerous escalation and measures, and ensure the fulfillment of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The so-called Israeli ministerial committee, known as the Security Cabinet, approved last Thursday the establishment of 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank.
